Mrs. Maxwell reported that the WJH teachers are working towards completing the Charlotte Wing observations and trainings. Parent/teacher conferences are this week. We finished up 8th grade promotion pictures and individual pictures. Students have been enjoying the student lounge during lunch and ER Fridays. Volleyball has started, the 8th grade girls are 1-0; 7th grade 0-1. Football has also started. They have one game scheduled so far. We will be looking at a flag program for next year. We had a pep rally on 9/9. We chose our new mascot. - October 4 Meeting Report
The seventh grade participated in Talent Search field trip to Yuma on October 4. The volleyball teams played Thunderbolt on September 27th. 7th grade lost their game, but 8th grade won. The teams will participate in a tournament on October 8 at White Cliffs. The football team lost the first two games and will play Gila Bend following fall break. The first dance of the season was held September 30th. The theme was ‘80’s. - Report From Board Meeting October 12, 2011
Mrs. Maxwell provided a written report. Andrew Alamban and Jailynn Butler were Elk Teens for September and October. We finished quarter testing. Students earning 70% or higher on all three tests will be entered into a prize drawing and also be eligible to participate in “free dress” Fridays for the second quarter. Student Council will have a “go green” booth set up at Family Fun Day. There is a cyberbullying assembly on October 18. Our honor roll assembly is October 20. On October 24, we have Red Ribbon Presentation. Football and Volleyball are still going on. - Report From Board Meeting November 9, 2011
Mrs. Maxwell provided a written report stating that Darian Flores is the November Elk Teen.
There were seven students in 7th grade on Principal’s Honor Roll; Eleven in 8th grade. These students are eligible for free dress Fridays. We have thirteen 7th graders on Honor Roll; Thirteen in 8th.
There are nineteen 7th graders with three or more failing grades; Five in 8th. These students have been assigned to mandatory tutoring. Two of the 7th graders have already been retained. There are twenty-nine 7th graders with two or fewer failing grades; Twenty-six in 8th.
Mrs. McCabe’s homeroom won the Red Ribbon Door Contest. Winter sports are being scheduled
November 4. The AIMS/Quarter Test prizes assembly is November 10. - December 6th Meeting Report
Tryouts for basketball and cheer were held last week. The first game is home on December 12th against Wenden. Students are practicing for choir and band concerts and preparing for quarterly testing. Students are collecting items for Operation Comfort and the Food Drive. The homeroom with the most donations will have a free recess. - Report from Board Meeting January 11, 2012
Mrs. Maxwell reported that WJH teacher Letters of Intent will be handed out this Friday. There were 4 seventh graders on the Principal’s Honor Roll list; 9 eighth graders. 12 seventh graders are on honor roll; 7 eighth graders. 40 seventh graders earned failing grades, 18 earned 2+ failing grades; eighth grade is the same. The honor roll and perfect attendance assembly is this Thursday. Our Spelling Bee is this Friday. Ms. Heyman won the Dominos Pizza Party. The girls’ basketball team is going to Thunderbolt this Saturday to play against Mohave Valley and Needles. - Report from Board Meeting Febuary 8, 2012
Mrs. Maxwell reported that Mariah Sharpe is Elk Teen of the Month at WJH. Twelve students were recommended for gifted testing, and eight passed, which is very difficult at the seventh and eighth grade levels. Our Spelling Bee winners are Darian Flores and David James. They will
compete in the County Spelling Bee on February 7, 2012. The 7th grade boys have a basketball tournament on February 11, 2012, which will be the last event of their season. - Report from Board Meeting March 13, 2012
Mrs. Maxwell provided a written report stating that WJH students worked on various projects for our fair booth. We earned a purple ribbon this year. Sally Kelley was our teacher of the year.
Students enjoyed a Pep Rally on March 1. We gave away prizes to students that Exceeded or Met on the 2011 AIMS test, with every student receiving a prize. Riddell reconditioned our helmets all but 12 needed to be disposed. We will need to purchase new helmets for the upcoming school year. - Report from Board Meeting April 11, 2012
Mrs. Maxwell reported that Hailey Wedemeyer was Elk Teen of the Month. Michelle Butteri, Lori Lusk, Michelle McCabe and myself attended the beyond textbook training. The AIMS test is next week. Students enjoyed a school dance on April 6. Notices went home for parents regarding the 8th grade promotion dance. It is May 11; parents are responsible for putting on the dance. Mrs. Maxwell reported that Miguel Quinones and Lainee Scott were Elk Teens of the Month for April and May. Elk Teens were invited to the Elk’s Lodge on May 3, for lunch. I will be attending the Great Arizona Teach-in on Saturday, May 19. Seventh graders in Talent Search
went to Palm Springs Tramway and Air Museums on May 1. PHS football coaches met with 8th grade students on May 3. PHS Cinco de Mayo dancers will perform May 10. Our end of the year band concert is May 15, at 7:00pm. Drama Club will be performing “Acting can be Murder” on
May 24. The Crisis Shelter will be speaking to boys about dating violence on May 21; girls on May 22.
